Catherine was our model for this shoot, this was our second time working with her. And its always fun to shoot a with model you've previous worked with you get to skip the sometimes awkward getting to know each other phase. The shoot goes much better the second time around. We found a great location to shoot at even though it was very busy, and ton of people were out doing holiday shopping. So we had to be more "creative" with the locations so people wouldn't constantly be in our shots. The orange dress Alayza decided to go with was very bright and saturated and made Catherine stand out in the shopping plaza. One woman passing by said "That dress is so gorgeous." So once again Alayza doing a great job styling the shoot. We found a restaurant with outdoor seating that had no one eating outdoors so we decided it would be a good location to shoot at. I always enjoy shots of people sitting down at tables but for some reason but I never seem to find any while I'm shooting. So I was very happy with these images and they became some of my favorites of the shoot. The next outfit Alayza had ready for Catherine gave the shoot a whole different vibe its amazing how much wardrobe can the look of the shoot. I love to shoot close ups of the models faces, Alayza likes the close ups too it shows off her makeup, which was amazing! This was a great shoot! Catherine was amazing, the location was perfect, the outfits were excellent I really enjoyed this one and I'm very happy with how the images came out.

Happy Holidays all, season's greetings! Hope your holiday plans are going well, Christmas is just around the corner so when you see a Christmas tree while your on location you gotta take advantage right! This wasn't a holiday shoot per say but we did grab a few nice shots in front of the tree I really liked, and I couldn't think of a good title for this post. : ) Loreina is an awesome model, and an even more awesome person, We've worked with her multiple times now, and its fun every time. Oddly enough we've only done studio stuff with Loreina and we decided to head outdoors for this shoot. The first look Alayza styled for us was this silver top and red skirt with a choker which caught a lot of attention from on lookers while we were shooting. She has a great smile! The next look Alayza put together was amazing, I don't know what to call it other than a glitter suit but the pants and blazer weren't even sold together you'd never guess from looking. This was my favorite look of the shoot. This was the last look we did before we got too cold, the sun was setting and it was getting chilly but Loreina modeled through it and got some great shots. Another awesome shoot in books with Loreina and I'm looking forward to our next one with her.

I was unsure initially how I wanted to edit these images, with her having hair in her face I actually edited the same photo 7 different ways before I was happy with end result. I really wanted her eyes to stand out in some of these shots because brown eyes can look black while shooting sometimes and I wanted to color to come through. The shoot turned out great I'm happy with images, and its always fun working with Lanette shes so fun to hangout with and shes a great model.

So we thought it would cool to shoot them together. This was Alayza's first official shoot as a stylist, in addition to makeup and hair. And it made a difference in quality of the images overall having a styled wardrobe. This was actually the first time Lanette and Kristy met each other but they had great chemistry on camera together. We always have a lot fun on shoots, lots of laughs from start to finish. We work with some really awesome people. Alayza actually originally put together three outfits for Lanette but we decided to do two Lanette and one with Kristy so she wouldn't have to wear the same outfit from our earlier shoot. I really like the second outfit Alayza put together for Lanette it was very high fashion and Lanette gave us some great images. All in all a great shoot, I'm really happy with the images we captured, And had a great time doing it.

This was our 2nd shoot Kristy and I was excited to work with her again we got some great stuff the first time so I was ready to get started. Alayza (wife/makeup artist) wanted to do a bold look on Kristy which turned out great. We've been doing more natural looks outdoors and decided to switch it up for this shoot. We also did some in studio shots and shot a short fashion video as well and had a ton of fun doing it.
while we were outdoors I wanted to find some great lighting nearby we could take advantage of, Kristy actually found a great spot for this portion of the shoot
I usually shoot a lot of 1/4 and 1/2 shots so I wanted to get some fulls this shoot I think they turned out great.
I haven't done any b&w photos in while so I wanted to some with Kristy, I love B&W
Here's some more great shots of her in color.
We also went in studio and got some great shots there as well!
And last but not least we did some video which came out amazing even though Kristy thought being filmed was awkward, so we laughed a lot while filming the video I'm still pretty new video but I'm getting the hang of it.

What's it in for me? Is a common question someone might ask before spending money on anything they need some convincing that it's worth their hard earned money. I'm going to show that people need professional headshots and how they could be losing a ton of business without it. In the social media era where in which your first impression isn't coming in person anymore, it's very important to have a strong "virtual handshake" aka the profile picture, your real first impression. According to an article by Forbes "Freelancers now make up 35% of U.S. workers, and collectively earned $1 trillion in the past year" https://www.forbes.com/sites/elainepofeldt/2016/10/06/new-survey-freelance-economy-shows-rapid-growth/ That's 55 million Americans and that number is growing every year. So with over 1/3 of US workforce freelancing and with a half billion LinkedIn users and 2 billion Facebook users potential customers are checking those places first before they do business with anyone. What will they find when they come your page? People can easily grasp the importance of dressing nice for a job interview a meeting, or perhaps even a date. So why the disconnect with social media. What does your profile picture say about you? Are you wearing nice clothes, is your hair groomed, do you look professional, or trustworthy. how's that smile, are you approachable? I hope so or your leads takes their business to your nearest competitor. Don't believe me? In a 2006 study they found "voters seem to be heavily influenced by a candidate’s appearance, and in particular the kinds of personality traits that a politician’s face projects" with nothing but a headshot having no idea about candidates platforms random people were able to guess 70% of the time which candidate won the election. We make snap judgments on intelligence, competence, approachability etc.. Based on facial expressions in a photo. And how fast do we make these decisions? In as little as 1/10th of a second. These results are consistent in children even as young as five years old. And with something this important and so powerful that it decides elections. It's best left up too the professionals. I would encourage anyone to look through any headshot or portait photographers portfolio before making a decision. And also have a look at their profile picture see how much they value their own product. The entire social media world is making snap decisions about whether to hire people for freelance gigs, calling someone in for that job interview, or swiping in the right direction on tinder based on a profile picture. It would be impossible to imagine the number of missed opportunities people have everyday simply by having a mediocre headshot, or even worse none at all. You are your own billboard. People simply have to ask what image do I want to project to world. I hoped this convinced some people that it's not only worth it but that they simply can't afford not too. If your interested I checking out the study you can read about it here https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-look-of-a-winner/ What to expect from your photoshoot.
Photoshoots can be scary if you don't know what to expect. Hopefully I can alleviate some of your concerns I'll address it by actors, models, and business professionals I'll start with the actors Actors, what makes a good headshot is confidence, and approachability. Confidence comes from the eyes and approachability comes from the mouth. The way to look confident is to try and keep your eyes small by smizing (Check out celebrity photos), It's simple as that. Top it off with a slight smile and your golden. You been practicing your faces in the mirror or on your smart phone. Your feeling good, now what do you wear? Keep it simple, no bright colors, no patterns. And wear something you feel confident in. And that's it your ready! Next is models. I can only speak on shoots with me and ones I been too, but for the most part be ON TIME. If you can do that your find yourself working more than most girls. Once you arrive on set you'll go straight into hair and makeup. If you didn't talk about outfits to the photographer bring the classics. Big sweaters, plain tanks & tees, tube top, blue jean jacket, and button up shirt this will cover 99% of shoots. So on too the actual shoot, some photographers are very verbal and will coach all of your poses. Others like me and very quiet while shooting and will coach (if needed) in between sets be ready for both types. A little advice on posing, find a model with your body type and study all his or her poses no one expects you to reinvent the wheel. If your shooting beauty shots, the best advice which I got from a model was too try and look through the lens, and see if you can find the photographers eye. You will make some great faces. And If all else fails SMIZE. That's a photoshoot in a nutshell. Onto business professionals. You have it the easiest all you have to do is smile. I think most business headshots or business portraits are taken to make a great first impression on potential customers, clients, partners, readers, etc. So a nice big smile is inviting and makes you appear more trustworthy. Then they're are some classic poses like arms crossed, poker face, the standing over a desk. These are classic for reason, don't be afraid to try them. Also white background is classic works almost across the board. That pretty much sums it up, any questions please ask. |
